Penske Helps a Large Automotive OEM Stand Apart from the Competition

Client: Automotive OEM

In the competitive automotive industry, a large original equipment manufacturer (OEM) encountered a strategic challenge: They wanted to expand the appeal of their luxury vehicle without undertaking a major capital investment.

To do this, the company partnered with Penske Vehicle Services to engineer an innovative solution. The objective was to introduce a specialized paint option, which required precision, minimal disruption to the assembly plant and zero capital.

Through this collaboration, Penske developed a groundbreaking refinish paint application process that could seamlessly integrate into post-assembly production.

Results:

  • The development of a new paint color and processto set the product apart from others. The product is sent for optional new paint treatment after assembly is finished but before customer delivery, avoiding any disruption to the operational flow.

Background:

  • Enhance the luxury of the product without operational disruption or capital investment.

How we did it:

After leaving the assembly plant, the finished vehicles go to Penske Vehicle Services in Troy, Michigan. Here, Penske's team of skilled paint technicians meticulously prepares each vehicle, setting the stage for the application team to apply the specialized paint option. Paint options vary depending on client request but can include two-tone color schemes, buried stripe packages, and a multitude of other options. This transformative touch gives the luxury vehicle a one-of-a-kind custom exterior finish.

The quality and craftsmanship attained through Penske's refinish paint process exceed OEM standards. This means prospective buyers can tailor a vehicle to their exact specifications before delivery.

This partnership showcases how strategic relationships can elevate a luxury automotive product and demonstrates the potential for operational enhancements without the burden of significant financial investment.
